Westduinpark - Nature
The Westduinpark in Vlissingen is an atmospheric nature and recreation area where dunes, forest, and beach meet. It lies north of the boulevard, adjacent to the dunes and the beach.
What can you do in the Westduinpark?
Together with the adjoining Nollebos, the park forms a green area of no less than 47 hectares – perfect for those seeking peace, space, and nature.
- Walking & cycling: Follow the well-maintained paths through dunes, forest, and open grassy fields. From the park, it's easy to walk to the boulevard or the charming seaside village of Dishoek. A route along the dune tops rewards you with a panoramic view over the Western Scheldt, where large sea ships pass close to the shore.
- Discover nature: The area is rich in flora and fauna. Thanks to seepage water from the dunes, salt-loving plants such as samphire and sea lavender grow here. In spring, dune valleys bloom with wildflowers, and in the early morning, rabbits, foxes, and numerous bird species can be spotted.
Relax & play: The park is child-friendly and small-scale. There is a play meadow with play equipment, picnic spots, and a skate ramp. Ideal for families, active visitors, joggers, and nature lovers. In summer, you'll find plenty of peaceful spots to enjoy the sun.
- Discover history: In the Westduinpark, you'll find remains of the historic Fort De Nolle. While walking, you'll also come across bunkers and information boards that tell the story of the inundation and wartime defences from the Second World War. A fascinating mix of nature and history.
A green duo: The Westduinpark is the younger, sunnier extension of the area (± 21 hectares), mainly offering space and recreation. Right next to it lies the older Nollebos (± 26 hectares). The Nollebos is more romantic and forested, with ponds, bridges, and peaceful paths. Together, they form the largest city park in Vlissingen.
